This one’s for the road warriors out there.
When you travel with regularity, you experience negative things. In the process, you acquire pet peeves, hangups, hot buttons that tick you off. Was that said nicely enough?
Let’s do it. Thumbs down travel experiences:
· Excessive PA announcements on flights. (On a recent flight I counted seven times being reminded to fasten my seatbelt).
· Volume of PA announcements. (Am I getting old or did they crank up the volume on the PA system in the past year or two?)
· The flight attendant that slams the overhead compartment doors. That’s fun.
· The crowd (comprised of all the boarding groups) that gathers in front of the boarding lanes minutes before the first group is called.
· The guy that comes down the aisle with a backpack and doesn’t realize that if/when he turns left or right someone in an aisle seat is gonna get whacked.
· Travelers who ignore the moving sidewalk sign that says: ‘walk on left/stand on right’. Trying to get by the blockade when you’re in a hurry is always good for the anxiety.
· Hotels nowadays: check-in not til 3:00 or 4:00 p.m.; checkout 11:00 a.m. Hey, that’s only 19 hours of a first-day stay! Get to town mid-morning, go to the hotel, and then what?
· Hotels that charge a ‘resort fee’. Really?
· For the hotels that still use those small bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion, can you make the letters any smaller? I typically don’t wear my reading glasses into the shower. Sometimes I just take a guess and have ended up washing my hair with hand lotion. Gotta love it.
And here’s one more. You know this one; I’m sure. Your flight took off late. Passengers are nervous about making their connections. There’s an announcement that requests passengers who don’t have a connection to make, to please remain seated so those with tight connections can exit the plane first. As soon as the plane reaches the gate and that ‘overhead bell rings’, everyone stands up! Crowd mentality at its finest.
Now, to be fair, let me say thanks to the many men and women in the travel industry who go the extra mile to assist us with our air travel, hotel stays, car rentals and more. Next time we can make a list of all the ‘good deeds’ that happen out there to make our travels more enjoyable.
But, for today, we’re talking about ‘thumbs down’ travel experiences. Chime in if you like. I read it’s therapeutic to make a list and get it all out of your system.
Gotta love life on the road….
